Esmeralda is the deuteragonist of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame and a secondary character in The Hunchback of Notre Dame II. She is the best friend of Quasimodo, the mistress of Djali, the wife of Captain Phoebus, Zephyr's mother, and a sister like figure to the gypsy leader, Clopin. She is voiced by Demi Moore (who also voiced the villainous Dallas Grimes from the film Beavis and Butthead: Do America) while her singing is provided by Heidi Mollenhauer (though she didn't sing in the sequel).
Her personal Edit
She is a vivacious, attractive, beautiful, sexy, sweet, kind-hearted, street-smart, sassy, and fearless gypsy girl. She goes barefoot in the first film but wears black shoes in the sequel.
Her story Edit
She's the love interest of both Quasimodo, the protagonist, Captain Phoebus, the tritagonist and Frollo, the villain.
Although Esmeralda ends up with Phoebus and not Quasimodo, she is one of the few heroines not to be obtained by the main character; the first being John Smith.
Judge Claude Frollo also had an obsession with Esmeralda, making him the second male Disney villain to have an obessive crush on the female lead (the first being Gaston from Beauty and the Beast).
Sometime after the events of the first movie, Esmeralda and Phoebus get married and have a son named Zephyr who was the tritagonist in the sequel (the deuteragonist was Madellaine who was Quasimodo's love interest who eventually became his wife).
A possible reason for Esmeralda's eyes to be the emerald shade of green is that "esmeralda" is the Spanish and Portuguese word for "emerald."
