He loves me, he loves me not
Smurfette is the love interest of nearly every male Smurf in The Smurfs. She was voiced by the late Lucille Bliss in the animated series, Katy Perry in the live-action/animated hybrid film, Melissa Sturm in The Smufs: A Christmas Carol, Melissa Sturm in The Smufs: A Christmas Carol. She is the main protagonist of the franchise.
Smurfette was created by Gargamel in an attempt to create jealousy and hatred among the Smurfs but there was one problem. She was incredibly ugly with black, dry hair, and a big nose.
She was sent to the village where she was found by Hefy Smurf, the strongest of the Smurfs and was recognized by his tattoo. Despite her appearance, he took her to the Smurf village and treated her with kindness.
She was a troublemaker but when she almost flooded the village she felt guilty and confessed she was created by Gargamel. Papa Smurf then used his magic to make her a real Smurf (in the comics, he used plastic surgery). Smurfette's appearance changed into the form seen in the image. She became good-hearted, friendly, cleanly, helpful, and made almost all the Smurfs fall in love with her. She is nice with all the Smurfs.
Trivia
- Until Season 5, she was the only female Smurf in the village. Season 5 then gave us Sassette, another female Smurf created by the Smurflings using the same magic spell Gargamel used. Season 8 gave us Nanny Smurf, a female Smurf possibly as old as Papa Smurf.
- In Smurfs: The Lost Village, Smurfette is the true main protagonist. At the end of the film, Smurfette is very happy that she finally became the new leader of the Smurfs, as she found her purpose.
- It's been stated female Smurfs have to be created as they are not made naturally.
- Despite her friendly personality, she along with the other Smurfs are annoyed by Brainy.
- She has been the love interest to other creatures as well including gnomes and imps and was almost forced into marrying them.
- Handy used to have a crush on her until he fell in love with Marina the Mermaid (not the Jake and the Neverland Pirates one)
